Seaside Surprises is maybe the most interesting story in the series so far, as it is about the youngest Hunter son, who had no time to " create " himself. His task had always been to support the family and now it is time for him to step out of the shadow.
Of course he must fall for a troubled woman - a woman running from her abusive husband.
The reader knows her story from the beginning and is waiting for the shoe to drop and her ex showing up again.
The book gives a lot of drama and excitement, it never gets boring.
What I like about this book is the human aspect, the development of the two main characters, Jake and Tiffany. Both have to step out of their old selves and become someone else, re-define themselves, but still stay true to their characters.
A lovely book. I am looking forward to reading more about the Hunter family.
All the stories of the Hunters Series are good. I've read several more of the eight besides the boxed set.
Seaside Surprises - Pleasant surprise. I was surprised. The author did great job with her writing, characters, and plot. It's refreshing to read a decent book without explicit sex and profanity and stupidity. I'll be reading more of Ms. Claflin's book. She ranks with Maeve Binchy.
Seaside Heartbeats - Intriguing. Another well written, funny romance with heartwarming characters that are real and a twisting plot giving suspense to the story. The Hunters are a good family and each story is fresh, no repeats.
Seaside Dances - Little sad. A well written, intriguing romance with a couple of not so happy characters and all the rest of characters in this series. The plot twists from a sad, slow beginning into fast moving happiness. Not my favorite book of the Hunters series, but still an interesting read.
Bayside Promises - A heavy but with humor story. A well-written, intense romance with interesting, believable characters. The heaviness of the father's destructive behavior towards his family damages his daughters, but they still have a sense of humor, although love is difficult. I didn't like the father, because of his destruction, but not everything is sunshine and roses. This book is kinda like watching Die Hard when it first hit the screen, it involved your emotions too hard when the causes were exposed to the girls' thought processes. It is a good story and worth reading.
I wrote this review the first time I read this book in June 2015. Good story but the editing was terrible. Whatever happened to proofreaders? Spell check doesn't find everything wrong especially when extra words are in a sentence that shouldn't be there. The book was a quick read and kept my interest and I'll read more in the series. I just hope the editing is better.
This is my updated review. I still found the book quick to read and kept my interest even though I had read it before. It is so refreshing to read a romance novel that leaves things to your imagination rather than being sexually explicit. The techique of the book being written in the thoughts and words of the two main characters was an interesting way to know what each was feeling at basically the same time. I have read all the books in the Seaside series and have enjoyed them all. I am now reading the Bayside series and I look forward to new books in either of the series.
As for the complaint about editing I noticed that most of the mistakes have been corrected. There were still some corrections that needed to be made though.
This blew me away. Clean romance with no cursing. Its one of those books that if you stop in the middle of the suspense,you'll be looking over your shoulder. Cute romance with a suspenseful twist that I wasn't expecting. Full of cute surprises and humor,this is a book any person who loves California romance and a touch a family would love. Tiffany and Jake are a sweet match! The suspense at the end blew me away! Just amazing! Hope to see more from this author.
This is a fun, quick read! With her grandfather's help, Tiffany is running away from an abusive husband. She makes a stop in Kittle Falls and meets Jake when she shops at his family's convenience store. Jake was close to his sister who recently died and he is working double shifts while his parents grieve. He feels drawn to Tiffany, who introduces herself to him as Elena, but she is determined to leave town as quickly as possible. She finds herself stranded there and decides to give Jake a chance.
Both Jake and Tiffany/Elena were likable and it was easy to see them as a couple. Jake wasn't looking for a relationship. Tiffany was broken and didn't feel like she deserved a guy like Jake. There were external factors at work to keep them apart as well. It wasn't difficult to imagine the obstacles they had to overcome in order to give their relationship a chance. It was fun to see how their relationship evolved and they had great interactions with each other.
There were some great side characters in this book. Tiffany's husband was easy to dislike since he was such a jerk and it was a good thing she had a grandfather who was willing to help her. Jake had four brothers who all came to town and they are all so different. They are also all single so it looks like there will be more about the Hunter brothers in the future!
Since this book deals with abuse, there is some mild violence. The romance is clean; however, the main characters become involved with each other before her divorce is finalized.
I received a copy of this book to review. My opinion is 100% my own.
Stacy Claflin did a great job writing a romance for those who don't want to be bombarded with 50 Shades of language or nudity. The character development is well done, and her descriptions are well written. Her writing style is easy and clean. Perfect for a beach read or a book short enough to read over a weekend but long enough to feel like you've spent time with an author. If sweet romance is your thing, you'll love this.
